I’m interrupting regular newsletter programming today to let you know about the Freelance Writing Awards!
I’ll keep it short because I know that while the vast majority of readers are freelance writers, not everyone is (for those who aren’t, scroll on to the P.S. section because I’ve made the reading recommendations extra long today).
In a nutshell, the Freelance Writing Awards were designed to celebrate freelance writing talent in the UK. Despite being the backbone of the media industry, as freelancers, we’re routinely shut out from the mainstream press awards. Until now!
There are 19 categories, including Freelance Writer of the Year, New Freelance Writer and Best Freelance Project, so there's space for everyone. Categories aren't rigid – we’re not judging on whether writing ‘fits’ a category, rather the strength of the submission and what makes it uniquely freelance.
We welcome entries from writers in the UK who are freelance full-time or on a part-time basis. There are no entry fees for freelancers and the awards are being judged by 20+ industry experts. There will be cash prizes for the headline awards and we’re also offering mentorship sessions and some other exciting prizes for runners up.
All the entry requirements are on our website and I really hope to see submissions from newsletter readers. And yes, of course, there’s also a Best Newsletter category 😎
