How much do writers actually make on Substack?
Help out with the Substack Income Transparency Project
Hey A-Mailers!
This isn’t my usual kind of post.
Well, it is in the sense that it’s about work, money and power. But I don’t have a story about that for you today.
Instead, I’m a-mailing you to ask for your help with a pay transparency project I’ve just launched.
The Substack Income Transparency Project aims to get a clearer picture of how much writers actually make from their newsletters on Substack.
I know that not all of you who read this newsletter have one of your own, but I do know that most – if not all – of you care about the health of the creative industries.
And that’s what this project is really about – sharing earnings so we can be transparent about the realities for writers, authors, podcasters, illustrators and all other creatives who earn money through an internet platform.
This project started with a simple question. Am I the only one struggling to make an income on Substack?
I really hope not, but I suspect so.
🙏 So my ask for you today is: if you write a newsletter on Substack and make money from it, please fill out this form.
Thank you!
Anna
This is fascinating. Thank you for putting together, Anna!
Thanks for asking the big bold money question Anna - best way freelances can get a real picture of where we stand financially is by sharing the fees and rates we get from actual clients (anonymously by all means, true facts are what matters).
