Thank you for lighthearted, but also "light"-soul approach to the usually exaggerated attempts of making it happen at the start of each year.
Although some good science does confirm that starting something at the beginning of the year helps the habitual adaptations, ironically the same is true for every 1st of every month. And even every Monday of every week. Yes, our birthdays are also part of that collection of special days where we can make something "stick" for longer.
We should not be that serious about the start of the year. It is, in the end, just another made up way of measuring time (yes, yes, it is is based on some solid planet movements, I know). Ironically, as someone living in the South of the Southern Hemisphere, I see August more as the invitation to buy my ferris wheel tickets.
First week of August birthday here to salute your January bday :) Happy birthday Anna! Love that permission to see January as a warm-up and a blank slate vs "catching up" after the holiday hustle-bustle.
August baby here, so can’t wait for the heat. But I came here because your Nickelback comment really made me snort with laughter 😆. Wonderful words and actually I’m proud of myself for grabbing this month firmly and seizing plenty of opportunities. I’m a Rooster (Chinese horoscope) and after a dreadful 2023, this year is mine!
I do like January for its newness and freshness, I’m not one for resolutions, but I do like to daydream about how the year might pan out for me and look like by the end. A lot of people do this in their birthday month, so it’s a double whammy for you! 👏👏🥳
I like your optimism, but January is still utter 💩
(born just after NY myself)
As you aptly said, it's "a cold, existential wasteland", but not by itself - when you live in the upper latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere (e.g. most of Europe) it's merely an extension of a cold that has been going on for a while and will not be F-ing off anytime soon 😅
Alas, whoever decided upon the Gregorian calendar had a few screws loose...
I agree February is worse and March is an unpredictable tease of a month. I think of January as the calm after the storm (love Christmas but the joy delivering is also exhausting). Belated happy birthday to you -my 10yr old Aquarian also fits your description perfectly they really do make great friends ☺️
This year, I steeled myself in preparation for January. I am usually one of those people booing it from the start, but I accept that I can't skip it, so this year, I decided to thrive through it. I bought lamps and twinkle lights and every candle available at TJ Maxx. I did puzzles and read and went to bed early. About halfway through the month, I realized that I'd created the cozy space I need to enjoy the dark months, and I'm....enjoying it? I'm still looking very forward to warmer weather, but I feel like I unlocked something this year.
Happy Birthday Anna ! I must say though that, november is probably worse than january in my humble opinion.
I don't have anything to say about january other than it seems longer than 31 days 🤣 and that it is a cool month because my momma was born in january 😉
Anyway, this piece made me smile and I applaude your fierce defence of this glorious month. I love birthdays too- mine obviously but others too. Hope you have/had a blast x

I chuckled at how it's not about bad weather, rather about bad clothes.

Amen to ❤️ for Aquarius ♒️ but January is also ♑️
I love this, and feel similarly about birthdays -- happy birthday to you! X
Happy birthday! 🧡
Happy Birthday! And that Tuck Everlasting quote is WOW - now I must read it.
Happy birthday to you, Anna! And to me :) I hope it was a rejuvenating one, and sets the tone for an outstanding year.
It’s my birthday month too and I’m ALWAYS having to defend it!!

You are so right about November and yet there isn't a public vendetta against it like there is for January 🤔
Let's create one then ? #antinovember #novembersucks
Say NO to November
Happy birthday 🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰!
