Happy Sunday!
I’m writing to you from Romania. I drove here from the UK with my dad; it’s 1,300 miles. It took us three days! And we have to do it all again in reverse next week.
Like most long journeys, the one I took to get here has been both literal and emotional. We’re here to take care of some messy family business. Drama is high, tempers are frayed, and Romanian bureaucracy is wild.
It’s from that state of mind that I bring you this issue of Relevant to your interests, my roundup of links and recs that make my life richer – in all senses of the word. The issues are themed and today’s is, of course, all about long journeys. You’ll find a mini-essay from me about the journey being better than the destination, plus my recs for great reads/listens, including books about pilgrimages and parallel lives, a podcast about how it could’ve worked out, and a music video from the 90s.
If that sounds enriching, keep reading.
But first, my sales pitch 💌
If we met at a conference and you asked me for career advice, would you buy me a cocktail/coffee to say thanks? Probably. Why not support A-Mail instead – you get the same wisdom for less and you don’t even have to leave your sofa.
Paying subscribers get access to these links and recs roundups, as well as my quarterly income reports where I share exactly how I made my money in the previous three months. Reader support also funds my essays on work, money and power. You know, just the main forces in our lives.
Here are some recent A-Mail posts:
